This city is a fantastic place to live. It’s located 22 miles south of downtown Atlanta and 15 miles south of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. It has a population of over 17,000. The city is the birthplace of former two term Georgia governor Hugh M. Dorsey.
It was founded in 1822, although it was originally settled by the Creek people years earlier. It was named after Revolutionary War icon Marquis de Lafayette.
According to John W. Lynch, 1831 there was a terrible fire here that originated in the workshop of Mr. Matlen. It is not known how many structures the fire destroyed, but the incident was written up in the Macon papers with a heading that began “poor little Fayetteville” hit with a devastating fire. The town soon recovered from the disaster.
This city is the home to Pinewood Atlanta Studios, the largest film studio in the United States not located in California. This brought major economic benefits to this city.

Their city leaders, builders and community members broke ground October 1 on the new City Hall & City Center Park. According to the article this represents a milestone along the path to creating an engaging downtown space for the whole community to enjoy.
There will be a two-acre tract fronting West Stonewall Avenue which will be the home to this new, two-story City Hall building. It will be set within a walking distance to a plaza for light exercise and quiet reflection. Also there will be a walking path and outdoor classroom.
